After MFGlobal collapsed, there was a great deal of commentary on the accounting tricks that had been used to conceal the financial health of the company – moving the debt associated with the repo-to-maturity trades on European debt off of the balance sheets and out of the public eye. At the time, changing the accounting rules seemed like a long-shot, but that may be changing.

Platinum Outshining Gold in the New Year
With gold falling throughout the end of 2012 and platinum spiking since the beginning of 2013, the change has been enough to bring the price of an ounce of gold below that of an ounce of platinum for the first time since April of last year. But we wanted to know how this fits in the bigger picture, and whether it means anything for the future of the two metals.

The mention of market based performance (i.e. Corn was up 5% today) reflects all available information as of the time and date of the publication.
