You’re both two of the smartest guys I know. And now probably because of that first factor to have the earliest adopters and reviewers if you will, I don’t know if that’s a fair term. But reviewers have all this happening in AI since the launch of chat GPT. And kind of the unbelievable pace of the apps and sites and everything that’s come out since. So as I just told you, before we started recording, I got no agenda, no outline here, I just want to dig in with both you and see what your brains are thinking about the AI space and what this portends for the future. So Adam, you just had some quick thoughts, as we started, you want to share those?

Yeah, I was just gonna say I’m shocked at how few people that I talked with have even opened a chat GPT session and interacted with with version 3.5. At all, like in any capacity. I’m gonna say maybe 20% of the people that I know socially, and maybe a third of the people that I know, professionally, have even bothered to open the app and try it out. And I’m also shocked at the amount of just general cynicism that I’m seeing on social media platforms, guys who ask extremely general questions and expect the AI to be able to read his or her mind in a way that no human could possibly do. And of course, you know, like anything, it’s it’s kind of garbage in, garbage out. But with a very small amount of practice and thoughtfulness the that the treasure box opens up. And I mean, it really is remarkable what’s possible.

I’ve seen the same thing. And I would even set it lower like 10% of the people I’m talking to. And I get it to 20% by showing them all and saying no, look, you pull it up. I’ve been like a proponent of it, like look what it can do. And I pull up my laptop. They’re like, Oh, cool. But yeah, there there is low adoption outside of right if you’re go down the Twitter rabbit hole, you’re like, Oh, this is taking over the world. But out there in the real world. It seems like very low adoption so far.

I probably spent 30 minutes to an hour a day on Chat. GBT, like messing around doing stuff and within my tech friends that like, you’re really using, like, you don’t even get it. That kind of stuff. And then I think within sort of the finance crowd, I guess the adoption is very low. Like yes, sub 25% or something. But I will say that the sort of like, the extent there has been like a breakthrough moment for me is it’s like, it’s really like a dialogue. Like I think the best part I had was I spent two hours I was just like I was I was bought an AI textbook. And I was like asking questions like Yoda with the professor. Right? So I was like, what about this and I was like, this doesn’t work this way does work that way. So I had my iPad out with chat GPT four on there. And I had the AI textbook in front of me and I’m you know, going back and forth between reading this book and asking questions, and it was awesome, right. It was like having, like having a PhD candidate in AI you know, in your living professor in my living room, but I could ask any question about anything. So like all the things like, Ah, I don’t quite get how this fits together that fits that it could just plug those holes.

maybe you don’t I don’t know, I’m just used to I want to learn about something I buy a book about it right? That’s the that’s the modality I’m used to right. But maybe, maybe maybe you don’t anymore, right, I gather interesting experience, I was had a call with someone that had a business doing like a waste management certification, I can’t remember it was like a month ago. And like before, the call is like, oh, I should like, figure out how this works. And within 15 minutes, I like had a working knowledge of like, these are the different types of registrations, you get. And this is the testing and just like a basic industry thing, which that’s sort of, I guess, that’s the thing, where it’s been really useful for me so far. It’s like, kind of like niche content, like stuff that, you know, would be hard, like you could Google about it, but you’d like end up on some Reddit post, somewhere down the internet, trying to figure out how it worked. And it has like, pretty good responses for those queries are like, most another one I did was like, trying to buy a suitcase carry, like, I was like, show me the 20 major airlines to fly across Europe and US and what the carry on dimensions are and like what fits and all those dimensions, right? It’s like I used to have to like, you know, that would take me two hours, I’d had to spend two hours click through all the websites, and like build the table in two minutes. I was like, Okay, great. I know exactly what kind of suitcase I need now.

So part of me is like, it’ll never get mass adoption. If it’s people that most people just buy a suitcase, they don’t worry about the dimension. So if it’s people worried about the dimensions, or the people who will use it in that manner, but um, I’ll go back to you, Adam. And maybe if we can just set some terms here and actually tell you did a little thing you were showing me like, hey, define what all these different terms are asking the AI to do it? Right, because we have AI, generative AI, Chet GPT, GPT, three, three and a half. You just mentioned atom ion even heard it three and a half four Taylor just mentioned mentioned. So does everyone want to take a shot of that? Or should we just read it right off the AI script that what each of those are?

I’m happy for you to read it off. But I mean, the the Yeah. Why don’t you go through and and offer some definitions. And that way, that’ll be a bit of a a playbook for us when we’re, when we’re discussing concepts. It’s like a terms. Yeah,

right, exactly. So according to the AI, generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence that’s capable of generating new data or content that has not been explicitly programmed into the system. It’s achieved through the use of machine learning algorithms and other keywords, and specifically neural networks that are trained and trained on large data sets. I’m paraphrasing LLM are large language models are a type of neural network that are specifically designed to generate human like language, trained on massive amounts of text data, capable of generating coherent and grammatically correct sentences. Examples of LLM include GPT, three and Bert. I don’t even know Bert neural nets are a type of algorithm that is loosely modeled on the structure and function of the human brain using interconnected nodes or artificial neurons. neural nets are used in a range of applications including speech recognition, natural language processing and generative AI. How was that?

Yeah, I like it, I would sort of I would add to that, right. So so GPT is the big breakthrough here is transformers. And the chat interface, right. So large language models have been around for a while, obviously, they’ve gotten a lot more complex, that you can sometimes determine the sort of complexity or comprehensiveness of a language model by the number of parameters, I think GPT four has 165 billion parameters, for example, you can access open source. LLM aims, now with, you know, 13 to 30 billion parameters that you can train on your own, you still need a pretty sophisticated back end with lots of GPUs and memory to be able to do that. But all of the instructions are out there to be able to, you know, build your own. You don’t need to use the open API’s version of it. And Bert that they just listed is another large language model. But I think what’s what’s key about the chat models is something called RLHF, which is reinforcement learning human feedback, which is where they tune these models, using, in some cases, a hundreds of 1000s of examples of real humans, having conversations or talking about subject or prompting the machine getting a response back and then giving feedback on that response. And I think, you know, a really cool breakthrough. We’re getting to the point now where the models are sophisticated enough that they can generate really good high quality prompts for fine tuning these models, right. So one of the biggest datasets for early Jeff, was actually it’s 600,000 prompts that were generated by GPT 3.5. So, so yeah, so three was super. So GPT. Three, was sort of the original breakout model for open AI. But it wasn’t very good at chat. It just, it was really good. If you want to prompt it, it was gonna give you a very factual response. There was lots of hallucinating, hallucinating, is where it if it doesn’t really know the answer, and you don’t guide it to make sure that doesn’t loosen aid and make me make up back to me make up sources or citations, right.

and GPT four is a lot less prone to that TP three, five, which is the original. So if you haven’t signed up for GPT, plus, the default model is GPT, three five turbo, which is just an accelerated version of GPT, three, five, which was the original chatty PT, the one that was RL HF tuned. GPT. Four is a larger model that also has a lot more tuning, and a lot more sophisticated constraints. So it’s way less likely to to hallucinate, it’s way more likely to be able to synthesize complex concepts, it with a lot less prompt tuning, it has demonstrated incredible Theory of Mind capabilities and a wide variety of of emergent properties that don’t naturally or logically follow necessarily from the architecture of an LLM, which, which is also really neat. Like they’ve demonstrated the capacity to create individual model agents and how those agents create their own personalities and interact with one another to you know, for example, set up a Valentine’s Day party, invite other agents, develop relationships with them, have have secrets between them, you know. So it’s just a remarkable number and the research directions. It’s not like this is happening over weeks and months. But this is happening over hours, like I get a daily update with for three or four different keys kind of AI, summary providers, and, you know, every day there’s a double handful of new tools or new applications or new discoveries that are regularly mind blowing.

I was gonna say yeah, my my understanding that to augment what Adam said is that idea of neural nets has been around for a long time, like definitely back to the 80s. I think I think maybe maybe further back. But there, there was sort of like, there’s sort of like a top down theory of AI of we’re going to program some structure in there. And the neural network, like the bottom up video, we’re just like feeding it lots of raw data. And that what happened in the last 40 years is the transformer sort of method that Adam mentioned, I think was like a 2017 paper and then just the internet, right? Like the raw data, like people have now been uploading stuff, the internet associated, you think about like SEO, right? associated metadata, meta tags, all this sort of structured data, you have this massive trove of structured data to train these things on and then just sort of like Moore’s Law progressing, right? Like you have these cheap computing power has gotten cheaper and cheaper. And so it’s more of this as atoms it’s like this bottom up thing that’s almost developed this theory of mind. And this sort of emergent unstructured way that is like kind of a black box. I think there was some someone or an interesting papers like that we found a neuron and chat GPT right, but they were like going back and they found like one neuron at one layer of architecture that I can’t influence one thing slightly one way or the other, right like in this setting. That’s just really technically fascinating. Like that’s that it’s emerged in that way from this like very bottom up. Structuring.

Yeah, and right. I haven’t thought about it like that, like without the internet without all this without the technology without the cheapness of that technology. It wouldn’t wouldn’t be able to be here He wants to explain theory of mind for the listeners, and maybe me as well.

I’m happy to, I’m happy to go. So theory of mind is the ability to infer information or context, when you can’t directly perceive it yourself, or when you haven’t been told directly that something is big or given the context directly. So for example, you are sitting in front of a computer screen, you’re probably able to see things behind you. If we were to be if the three of us were to carry on a natural conversation, you were to mention that you something, you saw something behind your screen, neither Taylor nor I can see that directly, you’re inferring something about it. If we, if you were to ask chat, GPT or GPT, four or whatever, a large language model about what you can see, but Taylor and I can’t, then it would be able to infer that from the conversation that we’re having, even that even though you didn’t explicitly say, you know, Adam can’t see this Taylor can’t see it. There’s lots of other sort of examples. Where, for example, even a dangling participle like, Taylor, tripped on the sidewalk, walking down the street, right? Was the sidewalk walking down the street was Taylor walking down the street can infer that stuff, right? These are all like misplaced commas, that kind of stuff. Like what makes what makes the most sense here, right? So all of these, this theory of mind is a very wide

without it being trained to actually figure that stuff out. Yeah. So not the when I hear the theory of mind, I’m thinking back to the like, Turing test. Right. two totally separate thing.

It’s it’s that opening scene where they’re the cyborg, I forget the term they use in the movie. But there’s a there’s a test. They’re putting them through to see if they qualify as human or replicants. And there’s like a specific amount that we’re trying to get them emotional and see. That’s right. Yeah. And yeah, that’s a fun example. Which in it, that is huge. I’m sure you’ve seen some of those transcripts, the Sydney one, Microsoft one in particular, like, we’ll get angry, like it was calling people names. And like, yeah, it was like it. It seemed like a personality, right? Like, if you were like annoying yet and asking me it prodding questions up, like, oh, well, that answer conflict with your previous answer, if you’d like, like cross examining Western, so I don’t know, you’re getting flustered and upset about what’s going on? Which is super interesting.

Yeah, for sure. Right. If you went back 50 years, for sure. People would say this is a human on the other end. Right? Oh, yeah. Right, for sure. And 500 years, people think it was a god on the other end, right?
Adam Butler 18:22
Oh, yeah, for sure. This is a new study in the Journal of American Medical Association. It’s a small study, it was 100 995 subjects. But they saw that the subjects were describing medical concerns or medical conditions. And so for example, I still bleach in my eyes, I’m terrified, I’m gonna go blind. Should I go immediately to the hospital? Or, you know, what do you recommend? I do? And they tested responses from GPT, DVD three, five, I think it was Yeah, cuz this was November 2022. So it was original chat. CBT. And, you know, physicians, right. And they had three other physicians that were grading the responses, based on quality, the quality of the response, you know, was it was it accurate? You know, I guess didn’t make sense for the condition etc. And empathy, right? Did it communicate? You know, I care about you, I feel badly for you for this, the fact has happened to you what have you. And I may get the exact percentages wrong, but the three physicians preferred the GPT responses, over 80% of the time in terms of quality. Wow. And almost 100% of the time in terms of empathy,

which you’d think you’d read As your hand be like, fine, it can give factual, correct information, but it’s not going to be able to have empathy like a human.

Yeah. And these are physicians that are, you know, rating these responses, not other patients. So I thought that was really interesting.

Right? And you’d think that AI would be like, up, you’re screwed. Don’t go to the hospital or try and do anything, you’ll be dead in three minutes.

5g transformer. Yeah, I can’t, I have no idea. I mean, keep in mind, like I’m, I’m just, but six weeks ago, I had basically no idea what this is, I may have you know, toyed with, with GPT, three. So I’ve spent the last kind of six weeks every spare moment in climbing, climbing the learning curve on this. And it is helpful to have a little bit of a background in encoding, because so much of the work that goes on is open source, like it’s remarkable. You know, Gen Z has gripped this and run with it. And they’re open sourcing everything. And so, you know, if you know how to create a Python project, set up a Python environment, clone a Git repo, then you can pretty well get GPT, three, five, or GPT, four, to walk you through all of the other steps that you need to create most of the applications that they have on offer for you like one of the initial use cases that we had, which I think you guys would also have a use for was. So we do a regular podcast, as you know, it often goes an hour and a half, two hours, the context window for chat GPT, depending on whether you have three, five, or four is somewhere in the neighborhood of four, call it three to 6000 words. So if you’ve got a transcript, that’s more than you’re even on GPD for and it’s more than 6000 words, then it felt like it is paste that whole transcript into the chat window and say, summarize this transcript and create a landing page, right. But that is a that’s a use case that we add because it takes someone either somebody is taking notes while we do the podcast. And then we can kind of go back to the notes. And it takes us kind of 15 minutes to create a landing page, or no one is as taken notes, and then someone’s got to listen to it on to x or whatever. And take notes and then create a landing page. Instead, we’ve we record the the podcasts on YouTube, we were using a tool called nata AI, which we no longer use. But that use that worked fine for a while to automatically we literally dropped the link from YouTube into not AI, it would transcribe the podcast, it didn’t know who was speaking and made up it made a bunch of errors. But it was good enough for the purpose of uploading it to a GPT tool and asking the GPT tool to produce a landing page summary. Right? But the idea was you give the the GPT tool, a format. So here’s here’s a past summary, right? So it has the name of the of the podcast, it has one or two sentences that kind of introduce the guests and the main idea that it has a list of somewhere in the neighborhood of seven to 12 bullet points, which are the themes that we touched on throughout the podcast. And then it’s got like a teaser sentence at the end. Right. So you upload the full transcript to a tool, which we originally used llama index, also called GPT index. Specifically, the tool is called Meru and Aru. There’s a pile of these out now. But you know, four or five weeks ago, when we first started, we had to build our own and interface with the Miru API, where you upload this context, and then you provide a template for what you want the landing page to look like and then you say, generate a language, a landing page in this format for the current transcript context, and it’ll produce a landing page in exactly the right format that you can just paste into your website and, and and go for example, But that’s just a general summary synthesis tool to write. So you got a white paper. Here’s a blog framework, like here’s a blog template, write a blog potential blog for based on content from this white paper done. Or write, give me five potential blog themes that I might be able to write on for this white paper, then you’ve got five blog themes for these blog themes. Give me an outline, for each one, including a potential diagram that might bolster the the theme. Done, okay, you choose one, okay, write the write a blog, a blog, post script, based on this thesis and this outline, and give a clear description of the of the image chart table that you think we should use? Here’s the blog. Here’s the blog post, right? Like, there’s the use cases, I’m just giving you like a few. I’ve got a ton of other use cases that are wild and may spark people’s imagination.

So what are your thoughts like I shared with Taylor, I’ll send it to you a guy talking about the future of marketing with all these tools. And basically, the amount of content is kind of 100x. So the amount of spam, the amount of everything’s going to be almost unbearable, where you’re either gonna have to use AI to kind of sort through that stuff. Or like the actual human voice and the actual thought, which, who knows if we can even differentiate at that point, but it’s going to become even that more important. But this article is kind of saying that the key will be like, these websites need to become one, you need an API, so the bots can come easily synthesize your information, right in the if you’re aware of that, and the more you can serve it up to them, to basically feed the end consumer, the better it’s going to be for you. So yeah, it was just super interesting of like, this is going to change things as we know it in a big way. Like in for the mom and pops at home like hey, your your spam emails about to 100x. Right, there’s no more time barrier or work barrier to creating content, creating email campaigns. Taylor, you’ve given me a couple of little tools and whatnot that you’ve seen just in terms of running business in general, then we can kind of dive into the hedge fund business, but just what in the people you talk to in the tech industry, like what are the tools they’re using on a daily basis? I know this is difficult, because the new tool will come out tomorrow. That will replace it. But what are some of the table stakes, so to speak, so to speak?
Taylor Pearson 27:49
I get my cursor like mental model for how to use that check. CBT. And the broader LM is, it’s like, it’s like having a billion Junior assistants, right? Like every every field you’d ever want to have a Junior Assistant and that has three years of experience you could ask stuff to that’s basically catchy btw. So like learning about some new industry? How does this work? I’ve been like messing around with it for send me like, What are the things I’ve cited papers on stock bond correlations published in the last 20 years? Kind of, like souped up Google and a little bit and then the the dialogue is what for me has been like so if you can’t you can’t have a dialogue with Google. You’re trying to refine your search query right to get sort of the answer you want. Whereas that’s just like the prompting of the AI is way more useful for that. The natural language stuff is useful, like a super tactical thing. Like when people thought our inquiry form we asked them where they heard about us and like converting that into say categories, right? So if they say we heard about you on, resolves riff it can no okay, that’s a podcast. And so you put that into like the podcast. bucket. So that’s, it seems like right, the current state of it, like there’s a lot of sort of, like junior level task that you used to used to be and we used to have, like, you’d have an intern or someone like that admin person do. That’s really good with but I know it’s, I’m a big I use a lot. There’s a tool called Zapier, that’s like as sort of API integration into everything tool. You can hook up your QuickBooks and your Stripe account or whatever. And they’ve just integrated into Zapier. So I think that’s like super cool, right? You could pull data from your QuickBooks and say, okay, categorize this data and XYZ and spit it out into a Google sheet and you know, run this analysis on it kind of thing from you know, what are my top three selling products over the last month? So that’s I haven’t played around with that stuff, but it seems like if it’s not there already, it’s pretty close to being able to do that stuff.

he gets from Cora, which is a very interesting product for core to come out with. But yeah, it just integrates, it’s like just a little interface. And I think they have access to like six or seven different models. So it’s interesting you can do I think sage is their name for like the Google model, but you can query, you can, you can run the same query the same dialog with three or four, you can run it with GPT, 3.5, GPT, for sage, and then you can build, you can build little bots, which a bot is basically where you just you give it some context. And you say, just enter anything in this context, right? So I pretend you are a marketing expert, and you know, all about, you know, marketing direct to consumer products, and you know, you have 20 years of experience, and you’re great at this, like, please answer all my queries if you’re this person, right? And then you could, you know, you’re working on a marketing thing, you, you could have this dialogue, and it’s going to impersonate a, you know, a market, you know, someone that’s

just like characters or something, characters, yeah, to act as this character. And but behind the scenes, you’ve got, you know, a pretty detailed, comprehensive description of, you know, the, the AI might know who that character is, but you’re going to save emphasize these characteristics, or these features of this character in our, you know, in his task, or in this discussion, or whatever

the strength is to save it. And then it’s like one of your bots there. And so when you want that marketing one, you just be like, ask the marketing bot, ask the compliance by ask the what up sales bot? Which gets me thinking, but I thought that was working across all those. No, I have to actually go in and use each one separately.

No, you’re you’re selecting a model, right? You’re querying. I think there’s, I’ve heard different. There’s ideas of like, yes, using all the models, you build a model that sits on top of the models and inquiry, all that kind of thing. But yeah, the only thing actually now is like you pick which model you want to use. I don’t know if you’ll see the voice impersonation is pretty tough. A couple of basically this spam callers are calling and if they have these recordings of your sister online, right? They can impersonate her voice and said, you know, she says he’s a hostage and you have to send them $5,000. You know, which is great as you need to have like, codeword right with all your family members, like you know, say lizard if it’s really you.

You have to write you have to go over it at Thanksgiving. Yeah, exactly. Nobody put this online anywhere. Right. And this, like, gets into No, go down the rabbit hole of like, now do people pull away from putting stuff online and pull away from your tick tock videos and your Facebook’s and all this stuff of like, hey, the less of me that’s out there for AI to copy the better.

Yeah, I mean, good luck. Yeah. If you’re, if you’ve been online at all, then you’re there. They’re going to be able to impersonate you. I mean, look, it’s like anything, there’s going to be good and bad. I think the the force multiplier at the moment is to empower a much wider group of humans to be able to build and innovate using existing tech. Like I’ve been able to build tools, with the aid of GPT. For that, you know, I would have had to go back and do a wide variety of courses in order to be able to learn how to how to build these with GPG for and, you know, access to public Git repos. Now, a huge like, just an explosive number of things become available to me. I can fork a Git repo, innovate on that gift on that application that another developer had built. Maybe they built sort of a skeleton foundation. I’ll give you an example. This morning, I was listening to a guy who had built a bot to interface with Slack and the slack bot slack bots are nothing new. But But this slack bot now because you can now I’ll introduce GP GPT models into the slack bot, there is now an explosion in potential use cases for slack bots. So this guy provided a framework of a simple slack bot that he built. But with that framework, now I know how to create a Slack bot, reference the slack bot from within my slack session, and then build, you know, whatever functions that I want, create whatever bought types I want to perform. You know, I mean, you name it different and a lot of that a lot of the tools that are out there that people have built to make use of these new Tech’s most of its built in Python, and you can interface with it from terminal or from within a Python session or a pipe like a notebook. That’s not very helpful. Where it is really helpful is you’ve got an API, I want to be able to interface with it and use Slack as my GUI, or use notion as my GUI, for example, right? rather than me having to build a front end, which, you know, GPG fordable, will tell you how to do okay, here I’ve got a, I’ve got an API that somebody built, build a simple front end, using flask, and no J S, or whatever, you can do that. Or you can just build it into existing, you know, interfaces.

I mean, one of the things that get people really, you know, tuned up about this, is that we don’t really know in many cases, how these very large language models are able to, to make these forecasts to generate this data to reg to make recommendations, etc. Right. So you’re susceptible to the potential for the introduction of major biases that arise from the training set or from other unknown properties of the model that might lead to decision making that might be suboptimal, depending on your objectives and stuff. That that sort of like that was sort of the mental model that you had, I don’t know if this is still true in chess, but there was kind of a period where the best players were those man plus machine, right, you had a you had in your query, and then the player would override it, you know, one out of every 10 moves or something, right? Because there was a certain thing they saw that maybe the the machine didn’t kind of see, I think that’s, that’s kind of my model, right? It’s like, you’re more of a you’re an editor, you’re you’re working with this thing, you’re editing and you have your expert judgment, your experience, you say like, oh, well, no, it’s missing this context in this thing, and we need to do it this way or that way. But yeah, like, you know, remembering these specific facts or whatever. But it’s like, why wouldn’t you if you’re gonna write a speech? Like, why wouldn’t you say like, well, these are the six points I want to hit. And this is kind of the idea. And I’m trying to create this in motion and like, use that as a rough draft or an idea.

So my son was in a rush had a history paper, use GPT to generate a draft and then like, edited it, right. The teacher was you know, in tune with the tech enough to be running. All of these students submissions through a detector detected that it was too chatty PT, like, right, it was generated by a machine flagged it reached out to me. My head exploded, not like, angry exploded, but it’s like head exploded like, what are we going to do from a pedagogical standpoint in order to manage this tech? I went into just chatted to her she was very thoughtful. You know, I even sort of contemplated is helping to write a new policy for the school on the use of generative AI, eventually sort of abandoned that. But I haven’t talking to the kids about use cases that I think do further their, the current educational paradigm. So for example, they get a history paper, they’re typically given a rubric. You know, so, so a detailed description of what the paper needs to look like, what the theme is, and the rubric that they’re going to be marked against the kid that the child should be writing the first draft of the paper, and then submitting the draft to GPT. Four, and saying, you know, identify any factual misrepresentations or errors, you know, provide guidance consistent with guidance I would get from a grade 11 IB teacher on this essay, given this rubric, highlight potential passages that are might especially benefit from revision. You know, these are the kinds of because basically, in that case, the tool is acting as a teacher giving you feedback on something that you’re creating. Now, I don’t think that this is ultimately the best use case for the tech. But I do know that they’re going to be evaluated on their ability to write an essay in a classroom at the end of grade 12. Yeah, so the will the this is a universal mean, you don’t need it in a lot of cases, but where you have a complex task, or you want it to form complex summary or complex synthesis, produce complex code or analyze complex, you know, a large code block with a number of different functions, and then functions that call those other functions. It’s just useful to as your engineering the query or the prompt, ask it to think step by step and then give some for example, step one, do this step two, do this step three, do this. For whatever reason, I mean, we can speculate on why but for whatever reason, asking it to think step by step to perform tasks dramatically reduces the error rate, dramatically improves the quality of the output. And sometimes you want to actually break the objective up into multiple steps with Chad GPT. I sort of mentioned One earlier where I want to write a blog post based on a paper, well, first of all, have it suggest four or five different potential themes, then for each of the, you know, pick two or three themes, and have it generate an outline, and then choose an outline, and then throw the outline backhand and then have it generate a blog draft, right? But when they release the 32k context, that alone is going to be unbelievably transformative. Now you can drop entire white papers, you know, multiple chapters from books into or entire code bases, in some cases, into a single context window, and then query that asks, ask questions, build new code, what happened? I mean, you can do that already, right. I mean, that’s the tool that, so there’s a there’s a tool called llama index, there’s another tool called Lang chain. Actually, the two of them now are well integrated with one another for workflow. But the idea is you want to take a very long document of, you know, a book or the Harry Potter series or whatever, and you want to have it ingest that content. Typically, what it does is it breaks it up into, you know, Coach, or text chunks, the chunks are large enough to be processed by a large language model and turned into vectors, and even a large number of vectors that sort of summarize the main facts and concepts that are within each of these code blocks. And typically, when you’re ingesting them, they overlap by a little bit. So you can say, you know, you want each chunk to be whatever 2000 words and you want each chunk to overlap with the with the previous chunk by 20%, or 40%, or whatever. So you’re maintaining relationships between the different code chunks and stuff. And then you can build a graph.

So for example, our code base is structured as config files that are written in JSON, that are invoking a graph of different functions that, you know, calling data transform the data create features from that data, run different models, run meta models to consolidate that information, run portfolio overlay risk models, etc, right? The management of that codebase is non trivial. So, just ingesting the configs, and the config structure, and then fine tuning on that, for example, now would be much easier to create, create a new mandate, create a set of configs. To that, you know, describes a brand new mandate that uses these markets, these parameters, these models, this trade frequency, what have you, right, this portfolio Overview This risk target cetera. And it doesn’t need to go actually into the code base. But it can just generate the nested set of config files that we would need in order to call to run the

Right? So it’s a little easier tip, if you’ve got a back end group of functions on the back end, and you want to just expose those functions to a new user. But you don’t want that new user to be actually interacting with the code, then you can, you can put the code into the language model as the language model to create an API to expose the functions or functionality that you want. Ask it to build step by step a GUI to interface with that API. And then, you know, that’s kind of a good use case, already. But I’m like, I wouldn’t necessarily want to use it to build, you know, back end functional code from scratch without really high level deep domain knowledge of exactly what you’re trying to do.

You know, don’t get me started on this, but it’s a classic multipolar trap. Like, it’s kind of the perfect race to the bottom. I mean, at least, at least with an arms race, like the nuclear arms race, you know, to build nuclear weapons, you need a lot of scale that you can you can sort of monitor from space, right? Yeah. To build large language models, the size of open a eyes, you need a lot of compute resources, right. Like, I think they said it took about $10 billion of compute resources for them to fully train up TPT for. So that consumes a lot of energy. And it consumes a lot of compute resources, which you know, are currently mostly controlled by or, you know, within states that are relatively friendly. But I, you know, I do think that these models are going to be able to learn deep structures in markets that I think the main constraint at the moment, is that ultimately, if you’re interfacing with markets, if you’re interfacing with patients in a healthcare context, if you’re interfacing with, you know, clients in a legal context, or an accounting context, or whatever, these models are unbelievably powerful, but you need a human to, to, to sign off. So that the human is liable if there if if something goes wrong. You know, if you unleash the machine, and the machine trades the market and does some kind of harm either systemically or through some other channels that we can’t, we can’t conceive of who’s to blame for that. Right? And what do we do? What are the consequences? Yeah, and like, I think I think these there’s already language models or or transformer models that could be unbelievably transformative for healthcare diagnostics. That could allow everybody to easily do their own taxes. That could allow a huge proportion of people to defend themselves in court. Write contracts between core companies or between individuals, etc. The challenge in many respects are that the data that you would use to fine tune them are private, like, you can’t train on healthcare data, because it’s all private, can’t just feed it into a model. Without massive legal ramifications, right? If they were able to do that it would be completely transformative. I bet we would absolutely be able to, if not cure cancer and heart disease and Alzheimer’s in very short order, we would sure as hell be able to diagnose it early enough and create either, you know, genetic or organic or biologic treatments for those conditions that would massively improved quality of life.
